Sand on the beach, melting candle wax, play-doh, plasticine… it really didn’t matter what was the material, as long as I could use it to make something. In kindergarten I used clothing wooden pegs to make pen holders, wall clocks, when summer came beach explorations allowed me to have so many beach pebbles to play around. Some were glued together to make little creatures, some coloured and painted to be paperweight, some others just brought in the garden as a decor.

When I was 6 or 7 years old, my dad brought me to the expo he was working on with his company’s. I was so proud of him, of the professionalism he had along with his kindness to everyone who approached him asking questions about the product shown.

As it happens, a small curious C. is not the kind of kid that can stay in the same place all day, especially if so many people and different kind of expo are around her… so, with my dad’s approval and all the colleagues around him support, I was let free of roaming around and explore!

This is when… for the first time I have seen a pottery wheel, for the first time I have seen the artist’s hand smoothing the clay and from an organic lump of clay, a sleek vase was born…

One vase, two vases, a cup, a plate… I was fascinated!
I was utterly hypnotized, fascinated and enchanted by the process, by the movements, by the peaceful process…

Since then I always wanted to become a pottery maker and a clay earthernware artist.

In the picture, here you see my hands, when I was finishing my pottery maker qualification and I was experimenting finishing touches and a mignon vase.

The story continues, and I still do not possess a kiln of my own, or a pottery wheel, but I do sculpt, and I still love… everything about clay and earthernware.

I’ve always been fascinated by those biographies of famous talented artists that always start with “since I was a child…”, like when I started reading about Mozart for example, the talent, the support received from his family, the stunning pieces of music…

I am definitely not trying to compare myself, nor I am no-where near the same universe as Mozart’s talent, but I will always be inspired by raw talent, and I will always recognize it and admire it.
